The attacker entered the home with well-wishers visiting the home to see Gen. Abdul Razaq, who was recovering from injuries received in an earlier bombing, Khaama Press reported.
Security officials said the Pakistani man was wearing a suicide vest when he was detained Thursday.
Officials said the man had been sent by a Taliban commander in Quetta, Pakistan, and had also targeted the commander of forces guarding the border of the province with Pakistan.
Razaq was slightly injured in the earlier blast in Kandahar city. At least four people were killed and 20 others, mostly women and children, injured.
