Six arrested in fatal ferry-boat collision

HONG KONG, Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Six people were arrested in the collision of a ferry and a pleasure boat in Hong Kong harbor in which at least 37 people died, officials said.

Hong Kong Security Secretary Lai Tung-kwok said six crew members from both vessels were arrested in Monday's fatal collision off Lamma Island, The Hong Kong Standard reported Tuesday.

Hong Kong officials said more than 100 people were injured, nine seriously.

The Chinese central government Tuesday sent a letter of condolence to the families of victims, China's state-run Xinhua news agency reported.

The Chinese government asked Guangdong province officials to dispatch four salvage vessels to assist Hong Kong police with rescue operations, officials said.
