Oct. 1, 2012 at 9:40 AM

ONTINYENT, Spain, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A 35-year-old man died after being gored by a bull during an event in Ontinyent, Spain, officials said.

Luis Fernando R.B. was one of about 2,000 spectators at the bull-running event Saturday and was running into a cordoned-off area for members of the public when he was gored by a bull, Think Spain reported.

He was gored in the chest and the bull's horns penetrated his right lung. Doctors at the scene said he died instantly.

The rest of the event was suspended and the town hall flag hung at half-mast. His family, however, asked that the fiesta continue in future years in remembrance of the man.
