Sweden receives season's first snow

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Residents of northern Sweden awoke Friday to the first snow fall of the season, officials said.

The country's northeastern coastline was blanketed snow Thursday night, The Local.se reported.

"It is pretty normal to see snow at this time of the year. But it may be some time until we get some that stays," said Sandra Andersson of the Swedish Meteorological and Hydrological Institute, SMHI, to news agency TT.

The SMHI issued a slippery roads warning for the area Thursday night and Friday morning, as some roads were covered with ice.

The weather was expected to improve on Friday.
