Police officer accused of drug cartel ties

Sept. 25, 2012 at 7:52 AM   |   Comments

MEXICO CITY, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Thirty-five Veracruz state police officers have been detained in Mexico on suspicion of working for the Zetas drug cartel, the country's marines said.

The suspects, including four women, have all been taken to Mexico City for questioning, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

They were arrested in San Luis Potosi and the capital of Veracruz, Xalapa.

Earlier this month, Mexican marines captured suspected Gulf cartel leader Jorge Eduardo Costilla Sanchez in the Tampico.

The marines are considered a leading elite force against organized crime in Mexico's ongoing drug war.
