CAIRO, Sept. 24 (UPI) -- An Egyptian court sentenced 14 people to death and four others to life in prison Monday for their involvement in attacks in the Sinai Peninsula last year.

Eight of the people who received a death sentence are in hiding, bikyamasr.com reported.

Prosecutors said all of those convicted belonged to the militant group Tawheed wal-Jihad and were charged with killing three police officers, a military officer and a civilian in attacks in June and July of 2011.
