MANCHESTER, England, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A teenager was being held for questioning, as a man suspected of killing two police officers in Britain appeared in court, authorities said.

The 15-year-old was arrested Friday, The Daily Telegraph reported. He is suspected of involvement in the deaths of police constables Fiona Bone, 32, and Nicola Hughes, 23, on a Manchester housing estate.

Dale Cregan, 29, appeared briefly in Manchester City Court under heavy security Friday. Cregan was already a suspect in the killings of a son and father this year when he surrendered shortly after Bone and Hughes were killed Tuesday.

A judge ordered Cregan held without bail on four counts of murder and others of attempted murder.

The two police officers were responding to what appeared to be a routine burglary call when they were attacked with a gun and grenade.

Police groups and members of the public left flowers on the spot where they were killed.

Police have started an Internet campaign to find volunteers to cover in Manchester on the day of the funerals.
