Ynetnews said three men opened fire on Artillery Corps troops guarding workers building a fence along the southern border with Egypt.

The suspects detonated a bomb before being killed, Ynetnews said.

Israel and Egypt have acted to tighten security in Sinai after a recent attack on a checkpoint by militants killed 16 Egyptian soldiers. The militants crossed into Israeli to commit another attack but were killed in an airstrike.

Officials with the Israeli military contend most of the attacks are by members of the Salafi movement, which is reportedly behind the Islamization of Sinai.
