Motorcyclist survives three days in ditch

SOUTH YORKSHIRE, England, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- A British motorcyclist police feared dead survived three days laying in a watery ditch where he landed after a crash, authorities said.

A massive search for the man -- who had been reported missing by his partner after he failed to show for work the day after the crash -- was unsuccessful. The ditch, in a rural portion of South Yorkshire, was about 6 feet deep. The water at the bottom made it impossible to see the man and his motorcycle from the roadway, the British newspaper The Independent reported.

The man suffered broken ribs and hypothermia, but was expected to make a full recovery.
