PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- Mexican officials put up road blocks on highways leading to the United States and offered a $15,000 reward for the capture of 132 escaped prisoners.

The prison break happened Monday in the Mexican border town of Piedras Negras in northern Coahuila state, about 150 miles from San Antonio, CNN reported Tuesday.

The inmates escaped the minimum-security social rehabilitation center by digging a 7-foot tunnel, the state prosecutor's office said in a statement. They cut through a fence and fled through a vacant lot.

Local and federal authorities have been searching for the inmates and police set up blockades on roads leading to the Mexican-U.S. border.

CNN didn't report whether any inmates had been captured.
