Sept. 14, 2012 at 3:24 PM

BEIJING, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- China's coastal provinces have been advised to brace for a typhoon gathering strength in the Pacific Ocean, the country's flood control headquarters said.

Super typhoon Sanba, the center of which is about 560 miles east of the Philippines, is moving northwest. The storm is predicted to have winds as high as 175 per hour and is expected to create big waves and strong rainfall to coastal regions including Shanghai, Fujian and Liaoning, the Chinese state-run Xinhua News Agency reported Friday.

The warning from the flood control headquarters advised residents to be prepared for wind and strong rainfall.
