Lebanese army seizes truckload of arms

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A truckload of arms and ammunition was seized in East Lebanon and eight Syrians arrested, the Lebanese military said Friday.

Officials said the "suspicious truck" was spotted near Baalbek and the Bekaa Valley at about 2 a.m. Friday, The Daily Star of Beirut reported. The men in the truck allegedly defied orders to stop and pointed weapons at the Lebanese patrol.

The Lebanese unit surrounded the vehicle and forced it to stop, the army said in a statement.

"Their truck, which was confiscated, contained large amounts of arms, light and medium weaponry, ammunition, hand grenades, B-7 rocket-propelled grenades, electric detonators and communications devices," the statement said.
