6.2 earthquake rattles Indonesia

JAKARTA, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A 6.2-magnitude offshore earthquake rattled the Kepulauan Mentawai region of Indonesia Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which struck at 11:51 a.m., local time, was 470 miles west-northwest of Jakarta and 100 miles southeast of Mentawai Island, China's new agency, Xinhua reported.

No injuries or structural damage were reported, CNN said.
