PESHAWAR, Pakistan, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- The Pakistani doctor jailed after he helped the CIA find Osama bin Laden says the country's intelligence agency views the United States as its "worst enemy."
Shakil Afridi says he was tortured and held bound and blindfolded for months, Fox News reported.
Afridi, who has been imprisoned for a year, said the Pakistani government claims of cooperating with the United States in the hunt for terrorists is a sham.
Interviewed in Peshawar Central Jail, the doctor said during interrogations by agents of Inter-Services Intelligence: "I tried to argue that America was Pakistan's biggest supporter -- billions and billions of dollars in aid, social and military assistance -- but all they said was, 'These are our worst enemies. You helped our enemies.'"
Afridi said it was "now indisputable" that Pakistan supported militant organizations, including the Haqqani Network, which U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week designated a foreign terrorist organization.
The doctor said he was tortured with cigarette burns and electric shocks during his questioning.
Blindfolded for eight months, Afridi said he was handcuffed with his hands behind his back for 12 months. He was forced to bend down on his knees to eat his food.
Afridi said he helped the CIA out of love for the United States.
"I have a lot of respect and love for your people," he said.
