MOSCOW, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A U.S. woman who sent back her adopted Russian son because he was "psychotic" lost a lawsuit she filed against a children's rights ombudsman, officials said.
Torry Hansen had sued Pavel Astakhov over a Web site post in which Astakhov referred to her as the "adoptive mother" of the child, RIA Novosti reported.
Hansen, who said she was a "former" adoptive mother, was ordered by a Moscow court to pay $1,500 in legal costs.
Hansen adopted Artyom Savelyev from a Russian orphanage in 2009. In April the next year, she put the 7-year-old child on a flight, unaccompanied, back to Russia. The child carried a note from Hansen saying she did not want him because he was "psychotic."
The child now lives in a group home in Moscow.
Outcry about the incident caused Russia to tighten regulations about foreigners adopting Russian children.
Hansen, who lived in Tennessee at the time of the adoption but now lives in California, also lost a lawsuit against Rossiyskaya Gazeta, a Russian government daily newspaper.
