LONDON, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- A part of Tooting Bec Common, a popular London park, was cordoned off by police Monday after a report of infant body parts found in the park, police said.
The London Metropolitan Police Service confirmed an investigation was in progress.
"Officers were called just about 8 A.M. (Monday) to reports of body parts, believed to be that of an infant child, found at a location on Dr. Johnson Avenue on Tooting Bec Common," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.
Monday morning a section of the south London park was closed by forensic officers, but police offered no additional details, the London newspaper The Daily Telegraph said.
A witness said, "There is loads of police tape everywhere. The (trash) bins in the park have been taped up so people can't remove any evidence," the newspaper reported.
