He was arrested late Tuesday behind a concert club where newly elected separatist leader Pauline Marois was giving a victory speech to Parti Quebecois supporters.

Shots were fired and a 48-year-old lighting technician was killed. A 27-year-old stagehand was wounded, and was in serious but stable condition Thursday, The (Montreal) Gazette reported.

When security slammed the back door shut, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, police said.

The fire was quickly contained and Bain was arrested nearby.

An AK-47 assault rifle and a handgun were seized at the scene and police said they found more than 20 other weapons at Bain's home.

Bain is a businessman with no criminal record, the reports said.

It wasn't immediately clear if the attack was an attempt on life of Marois , whose party's goal is to separate from Canada. Meanwhile, police have increased security around her home near Quebec City, the QMI Agency said.
