Lake Ontario suitcase contains torso

TORONTO, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A suitcase two boaters pulled from Lake Ontario Wednesday contained a human torso, Toronto police said.

The suitcase was spotted about a mile from shore. The boaters towed it to Bluffer's Park in Toronto where police confirmed the human contents, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The network said an autopsy was to be performed Thursday.

Police said they had not determined whether the remains were those of Guang Hua Liu, whose other body parts were discovered by police in Toronto and Mississauga, Ontario, last month, but whose torso had not been found.

Liu's former boyfriend, Chun Qi Jiang, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in her death. Peel Regional Police, who are investigating Liu's killing, said they were working with Toronto police to learn if the two cases are related.

Two other dismemberment cases have been recorded in Canada this year, including that of Montreal college student Jun Lin, whose body parts were found in Ottawa, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Montreal last May; and an unidentified woman's torso found in the Niagara River last week.

Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested in Lin's death, while no arrests have been made in the woman's slaying.
