Woman's torso found near Niagara Falls

ST. CATHERINE'S, Ontario, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The headless, limbless body of a woman Canadian police say was slain has been recovered from the lower Niagara River.

The torso was pulled from the water between the Rainbow Bridge and the Maid of the Mist complex after it was spotted by tourists, The Standard reported.

A preliminary post-mortem examination found the remains were those of a middle-aged Caucasian female who had undergone at least one caesarean section and a tubal ligation, Niagara Regional Police said in a statement Thursday, CBC News reported.

The victim had a pierced navel.

The body does not appear to be related to other recent cases of dismembered bodies, authorities said.

Body parts of Guang Hua Liu, 41, of Toronto, were found in two separate cities in Ontario this month.

Liu's former boyfriend, Chun Qi Jiang, 40, has been charged with second-degree murder in that case.

Luka Rocco Magnotta was arrested in Berlin and extradited to Canada this year to face prosecution for allegedly killing and cutting up Concordia University student Jun Lin.
