LONDON, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Nearly 93 percent of first-class mail in Britain is delivered on the first working day after it is mailed, an official said.
Royal Mail had a target of delivering 93 percent of first-class mail on time, The Daily Telegraph reported.
In the April-June quarter, 92.9 percent of the mail arrived on time, up from 91.4 percent in the same quarter last year.
Mark Higson, the managing director for operations and modernization, said Royal Mail came very close to its target at a time when it is going through major changes.
"Every process that we are involved in -- collecting, transporting, sorting and delivering mail -- is changing as part of our modernization program," Higson said. "While we are disappointed to have missed our target, we are proud that we have maintained a high quality of service while the company and our people go through this huge process of change."
