AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Dutch officials want to know why a commercial airliner did not respond to calls from air traffic controllers, leading to suspicions the plane had been hijacked.
The lack of radio response caused the Netherlands to send up two F-16 fighter jets to force the Airbus A320 to land, DutchNews.nl reported.
The national counter terrorism body NCTB will investigate why there was no communication from the cockpit and why the pilot failed to respond to instructions of air traffic controllers.
Air traffic controllers also reported hearing Arabic music being played inside the cockpit.
The military jets guided the Airline Vueling flight carrying 183 passengers to a landing at Schiphol airport in Amsterdam, where the plane was detained for a time before being released.
Passengers on the flight from Malaga, Spain, to Amsterdam sent tweets and texts saying the aircraft had not been hijacked.
