CAIRO, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- An Egyptian court has upheld a two-year jail sentence for a top police official for destroying evidence in the killing of protesters in Egypt in 2011.
Maj. Gen. Hussein Saeed Mohamed Moussa -- a former director of the Central Security Telecommunications Department -- was convicted in Cairo Misdemeanor Court last year of destroying Central Security Operation telephone records after the January 2011 rebellion that led to the ouster of Hosni Mubarak as Egypt's president.
Moussa appealed the conviction and was free on bail.
Prosecutors said Moussa destroyed a CD that contained audio recordings of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly issuing orders to shoot protesters, the Egyptian newspaper al-Masry al-Youm reported Wednesday.
The Cairo Criminal Court has sentenced Mubarak and Adly to life in prison following their conviction on charges of allowing violence to be committed against protesters.
