MAKHACHKALA, Russia, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Dagestan's president has declared a day of mourning, officials said, after a Muslim religious leader and five of his followers were killed by a suicide bomber.

Sheikh Said Afandi was killed at his home in the settlement of Chirkey, RIA Novosti reported.

A female bomber disguised as a believer approached Afandi and the followers and detonated an explosive device attached to her belt.

More than 100,000 mourners, including representatives from all North Caucasus republics, paid last respects to Afandi when he was buried Tuesday, ITAR-Tass reported.

President Magomedsalam Magomedov ordered all flags to be at half-staff during the day of mourning. All entertainment shows on television and radio were canceled.
