Bonfire contains remains of missing kids

CORDOBA, Spain, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- The remains of two Spanish children who went missing last October are probably in what's left of a bonfire, a forensic analysis indicates.

Investigators said a metal table that was placed over the bonfire may have been a deliberate attempt to increase the heat of the fire in order to destroy all of the evidence, ThinkSpain reported.

The remains, believed to be those of 6-year-old Ruth and 2-year-old Jose Breton of Cordoba, were discovered in an orchard owned by their father's parents.

At first authorities believed the bone fragments belonged to small animals but further analysis indicated they were from humans.

Because of the heat of the fire, DNA analysis is impossible, experts said.

The children's father, Jose Breton, reported them missing during a weekend visit.

Breton is currently jailed in connection with their disappearance.
