Pussy Riot members leave Russia

MOSCOW, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- Two members of the feminist punk band Pussy Riot have fled Russia, while 12 members of the group remain in the country, the group said Sunday via Twitter.

"Two our members have left the country because of being sought [by the police]. They are recruiting foreign feminists for new protest actions," the group said.

That tweet was followed by one that said "at least 12 Pussy Riot members remain in Russia," RIA Novosti reported.

One August 17, three members of the band -- Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, and Maria Alyokhina, 24 -- were sentenced to two years in prison on hooliganism charges for a "punk prayer" performance at the Christ the Savior Cathedral in February.
