Golden Dawn protests immigrant detainment

CORINTH, Greece, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Greek ultranationalists protested the transfer of 400 immigrants to an army camp in Corinth Thursday, suggesting the treatment was too lenient.

The immigrants were transferred to the camp after an early morning operation that focused on illegal immigration, Ekathimerini.com reported.

Golden Dawn parliament members Efstathios Boukouras and Chrysi Avgi were joined by dozens of party supporters in protest of the transfer. In a statement, the party said it is opposed military facilities being used as "tourism centers for illegal immigrants."

Nearly 11,000 undocumented immigrants have been brought to the Corinth military camp since the beginning of August, the report said, adding that almost 2,000 of those people have been arrested.
