Bus crash in Turkey injures 35

ANKARA, Turkey, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- A bus rolled over into a creek in Turkey, injuring 35 people, including 12 soldiers, officials said.

The bus driver, identified as Savas Cagdas, lost control of the vehicle while driving from the northern province of Corum to the Ankara, careened through the guard rail and landed in a creek, the Anatolia News Agency reported Thursday.

"The bus hit the side of the bridge then rolled over into a creek. We were in water up to our waists. I don't remember the rest," said Mahmut Akpinar, a victim of the crash.

Cagdas initially fled the scene, but later surrendered at a police station in the province of Kirikkale, officials said.

Those who were injured in the crash were pulled out of the bus and transported to hospitals in Ankara.
