U.S. participates in joint naval drills

MOSCOW, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Naval forces from the United States, Russia and Norway are holding joint firing exercises in the Norwegian Sea, a Russian Navy official said Wednesday.

Vadim Serga of Russia's northern fleet said the Northern Eagle drills are set to conclude Saturday, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported.

Taking part in the drills are the U.S. Navy's Farragut guided missile destroyer, Russia's Admiral Chabanenko Udaloy II class destroyer and Norway's MS Nordkapp frigate.

Serga said the firing exercises will be performed at above-surface targets.
