BUCHAREST, Romania, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A Japanese student was raped and killed soon after her arrival at the Bucharest airport for a temporary teaching job in Romania, investigators say.

The body of Yurika Masuno, 20, of Tokyo was found last week in a suburb of the Romanian capital, the Yomiuri Shimbun reported. Vlad Nicolae, 26, was arrested Saturday and charged with killing her.

Investigators say Nicolae encountered Masuno at the airport and convinced her to get into a cab with him, promising to get her to Bucharest North Station where she planned to catch an overnight train to Craiova. Her body was found in the opposite direction from Bucharest North.

Security cameras showed Nicolae and Masuno getting into a taxi.

Masuno, a student at Sacred Heart University in Tokyo, had obtained an internship to teach Japanese in Craiova through a non-profit group.
