Toronto-area police ID dismembered victim

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- Body parts found in a Toronto park and in the neighboring city of Mississauga belonged to a 41-year-old Chinese woman, police told a news conference Tuesday.

Peel Regional Police Inspector George Koekkoek said the parts had been confirmed to be those of Guang Hua Liu, a Chinese immigrant with Canadian citizenship and single mother of three children.

He said Liu was last seen by friends in northeastern Toronto Aug. 10 and was reported missing the next day.

Then, a head, foot and two hands began turning up in and along the Credit River in Mississauga. As that investigation was ongoing, an arm, thigh and two lower legs were found in an eastern Toronto park and Koekkoek confirmed they were all from the same person.

He said search warrants had been executed in both Toronto and Mississauga, but wouldn't comment further or reveal if there were any suspects in the homicide.

Liu was the second Chinese immigrant killed and dismembered in Canada this year.

Two months ago, a male Chinese university exchange student was killed and dismembered in Montreal.

The man charged with his death is in protective custody awaiting trial early next year.
