BOGOTA, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- The sister of a dead Colombian drug lord sued a television network and a newspaper, claiming series based on his life were defamatory, the newspaper said.
Luz Maria Escobar, whose brother Pablo's life was presented in a popular television series "Pablo Escobar: The Boss of Evil", sued the Caracol television network, claiming the network required the family's consent to present them as characters in the program, and that the program "damaged Escobar's good name," the newspaper El Espectador reported Monday.
The family also sued the newspaper for publishing two articles chronicling Escobar's violent anti-government crusade in the 1980s, arguing the articles violated the integrity of the family, the newspaper reported Sunday.
The lawsuit against Caracol was filed in June but rejected by a judge Sunday, the newspaper said. It also defended its articles about Escobar, arguing the facts presented were common knowledge and did not violate the family's rights.
