Yemen militants bomb government building

ADEN, Yemen, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- An attack on the headquarters of Yemen's intelligence service Saturday left at least 14 soldiers dead, defense officials said.

The Defense Ministry said a squad of militants used a suicide car bomb to cause heavy damage to the facility in Aden, and victims were still believed to be trapped in the rubble.

"Bodies are still under the debris after destroying part of the office," the ministry said in a written statement.

The attack began with a frontal assault on the main gate of the building. Rockets of some type were used to open the gate and allow the suicide bomber in.

The Yemen Post said the attack was presumed to be the work of rebels linked to al-Qaida who were recently targeted by a government military offensive in the Shabwa and Abyan regions.
