Strong quake shakes Indonesian island

JAKARTA, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- A strong earthquake Saturday rattled nerves and homes in Indonesia but produced no immediate reports of injury or damage.

The 6.6-magnitude quake shook the island of Sulawesi at 5:40 p.m. local time Saturday, Voice of America reported.

It struck about 35 miles from the town of Palu at a depth of 12.4 miles, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The USGS considered as low the chances of any damage or death, CNN reported. No tsunami warning was issued.
