Body parts found in Canadian park

MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Canadian police searched an Ontario park Friday for more body parts following the discovery of a head and foot earlier this week, officials said.

The head and foot, both believed to be from an adult woman, were found near Hewick Meadows Park in Mississauga, CKGL, Kitchener, reported.

The foot was found by hikers near the bank of the Credit River early Wednesday, officials said, while the head was found Thursday by a police marine unit.

Police said they don't know if the body parts were placed there or washed up from elsewhere.

"We have to take into account the amount of rain, the flow of the river, etc. We don't know if these items were placed there or if they were washed away from an initial dumping site so all that is going to have to be taken into consideration," Peel Regional Police Acting Inspector Randy Cowan said.

Police said they can't confirm whether the head and foot are from the same person until DNA and pathology tests are completed

Officers also canvased homes in the area to see if anyone saw anything suspicious in the past few days.
