Canada plane crash: 1 dead, 3 critical

KELOWNA, British Columbia, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Rescuers had to parachute to the scene of a plane crash in British Columbia that killed one person and left three others in critical condition, police said.

The Piper 30 Twin Comanche went down in a remote area about 20 miles west of Kelowna in the south-central part of the province around 5:30 p.m. Monday, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.

No personal information about the victims was released by Tuesday morning.

In addition to three ground ambulances, helicopters from the provincial ambulance service and a military helicopter responded to the crash site and airlifted the survivors to two hospitals, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

Several rescuers parachuted to the site before ground crews arrived, the Vancouver Sun said.

There was another plane crash in the same area in May, when a single-engine float plane went down killing all three people aboard.

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating both crashes, the reports said.
