Report: Israeli-Egyptian security not hurt

JERUSALEM, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Security cooperation between Israel and Egypt will not likely be harmed by top-level military changes in Cairo, Israeli sources told Maariv.

The sources of the Hebrew language daily expressed that view Monday, a day after Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi forced the top generals of the old regime into retirement and replaced them.

Morsi fired the defense minister, Field Marshal Mohamed Hussein Tantawi, and the army's chief of staff, Gen. Sami Hafez Anan. The two were awarded medals and became advisers to the president, Ahram Online reported.

Morsi appointed Gen. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to replace Tantawi and Gen. Sedky Sobhy to replace Anan.

El-Sisi is "well acquainted with Israel's security [officials], from Amos Gilad, head of the Defense Ministry's political and security bureau, to Yitzhak Molcho, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's personal envoy, and, of course, Defense Minister Ehud Barak," a source told the newspaper.

Gilad and Molcho have met with el-Sisi when visiting Cairo, the newspaper said.
