JAMBARAN, Afghanistan, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Afghan authorities said Taliban militants assassinated a tribal elder in the western Herat province of Afghanistan.
The incident took place late Saturday in Jambaran in Shindand district, Khaama Press reported.
Local authorities said Taliban gunmen entered the home of Shir Ahmad and murdered him. Ahmad's wife was slightly injured in the attack, authorities said.
Provincial security chief Syed Abdul Ghafar Syedzada said officials have discussed plans to improve the security situation in Herat province, where instances of violence at the hands of insurgents have become more frequent.
