NANCY, France, Aug. 9 (UPI) -- French police said they arrested a 38-year-old man who allegedly struck a deal with a woman to have sex with her 5-year-old daughter.

The mother allegedly confessed to the arrangement after being confronted by doctors at a hospital in Nancy where the child was brought for treatment of injuries last weekend.

The local.fr reported Wednesday the woman said the girl's injuries were the result of a fall; however, the emergency room staff did not buy the story.

The woman allegedly told investigators she had made contact with the alleged pedophile in an Internet chat room and had agreed to bring the little girl to his home in Talange and leave her there for several hours.

Police were still determining the mother's motivation. She allegedly told them she had engaged in several explicit Internet conversations with the suspect.
