African sentenced in death of honeymooner

CAPE TOWN, South Africa, Aug. 8 (UPI) -- A South African man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for murdering a young Swedish woman while she was on her honeymoon.

Prosecutors also want to talk to Shrien Dewani, the British husband of Anni Dewani, whom they suspect of involvement in her death, the Sun newspaper in Cape Town reported.

Mziwamadoda Qwabe admitted killing the 28-year-old bride while she and her husband were in Cape Town.

He also pleaded guilty to kidnapping, robbery and illegal possession of a firearm.

The court has applied for Shrien Dewani's extradition from Britain.

Britain's High Court temporarily halted Dewani's extradition on March 30, on the grounds that Dewani, 33, was said to be suffering from depression and post-traumatic stress.

Trial for a second man accused in the murder, Xolile Mngeni, has been delayed because he has a malignant brain tumor.
