SEOUL, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Hundreds of people may have died in flooding caused by torrential rains in North Korea, media reports monitored in South Korea indicated Saturday.

North Korea's Korea Central News Agency said 169 confirmed deaths occurred in recent weeks and another 400 people were missing, South Korea's Yonhap News Agency said.

Yonhap said rains in July also left 144 injured and chased more than 212,000 people from their homes. More than 50,000 dwellings were reportedly destroyed or inundated by the high water.
