MEXICO CITY, July 31 (UPI) -- Two theaters in northern Mexico showing the latest Batman movie were robbed at gunpoint this past weekend, authorities said.
Heliodoro Araiza, the public safety director in Chihuahua state, said a total of about $16,000 was taken in the two Sunday night holdups at theaters premiering "The Dark Knight Rises," El Universal reported.
Araiza said it had not been determined whether both holdups were carried out by the same person, since different weapons were used in each case, the newspaper said.
No arrests had been made.
The robberies occurred nine days after a gunman opened fire inside a movie theater in Aurora, Colo., that was showing the Batman film. A dozen people were killed and nearly five dozen were injured in the massacre.
The suspected gunman is in custody in that case.
