LONDON, July 30 (UPI) -- Swiss soccer player Michel Morganella was expelled from the London Olympics Monday for racist and threatening Twitter statements.

After Switzerland's 2-1 loss to South Korea Sunday, Morganella used racist remarks to describe his opponents and suggested the South Koreans "can go burn," the Web site 20minutes.ch reported Monday.

The 23-year-old immediately apologized, but the head of the Swiss Mission to the Olympics Gian Gilli, already facing criticism for sub-par performances by the Swiss team, sent Morganella home.
