Naked Rambler back behind bars

EDINBURGH, Scotland, July 24 (UPI) -- Britain's "Naked Rambler," who has spent most of the past six years in prison in Scotland, appeared in court Monday after being rearrested.

Stephen Gough wore his usual costume of boots and socks for his hearing in Kirkaldy Sheriff's Court, The Scotsman reported. His only other item of clothing was a handcuff attaching him to a court officer.

Gough was released from prison in Perth July 17. While in the past he was re-arrested as soon as he appeared in public without clothes, he was allowed to go on his way.

By Friday, he was back behind bars. Police said there had been complaints about his walking naked near a children's playground in Dunfermline.

Gough entered a not guilty plea and said he was representing himself.

A former Royal Marine and truck driver from Eastleigh in Hampshire, Gough, 53, walked naked from Land's End in Cornwall to John O'Groats in Scotland in 2003 and 2004. His attempt to duplicate the walk in 2005 and 2006 led to his arrest in Scotland.
