MADRID, July 20 (UPI) -- Dozens of police vans were deliberately damaged Friday in Madrid just before a massive protest march was set to begin, officials said.
Police say 240 tires were slashed on 97 vans parked in an enclosed area of National Police headquarters in the capital city. The parking lot was not accessible to the public, ThinkSpain reported.
The police union says the vandalism may have been done by an officer or staff member angered by the massive government cutbacks that were the subject of protests across the country Thursday and Friday.
