Eight hurt by Thailand bombing

NARATHIWAT, Thailand, July 20 (UPI) -- A bomb blast set fire to a computer company and several other businesses Friday in Narathiwat, Thailand, injuring eight people, police said.

Firefighters spent more than three hours bringing the fires under control and a hoist was used to rescue the computer shop owner and three family members from the building's roof, the Bangkok Post reported.

Police said a truck with a phony license plate held the bomb that was detonated by a radio signal. Investigators also were reviewing footage from security cameras in the area.

The Post said a separatist group in southern Thailand had distributed leaflets indicating it would conduct attacks against state entities ahead of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan, which began Friday.
