Rausing released to psychiatric hospital

LONDON, July 19 (UPI) -- Multimillionaire Hans Rausing, charged with delaying his wife's burial, was freed on bail Wednesday on condition he remain in a London psychiatric hospital.

Rausing, 49, said almost nothing during his brief court appearance, The Guardian reported. District Judge James Henderson ordered Rausing to remain at the Capio Nightingale Hospital and only to leave it accompanied by a staffer.

Police found the decomposed body of Rausing's wife Eva buried under clothing and trash bags in a bedroom in the couple's London home after Rausing was stopped for erratic driving July 9. Investigators say they believe she had been dead for weeks.

Rausing, a member of the Swedish family that controls the Tetra Pak food packaging giant, and his wife, daughter of a former U.S. Pepsi Cola executive, had longstanding drug problems.

Their four children were being cared for by a relative.

He faces the unusual charge of preventing his wife's lawful and decent burial. His lawyer, Alexander Cameron, is the brother of Prime Minister David Cameron.
