MOSCOW, July 10 (UPI) -- A Moscow man was sentenced to nine years in prison for attempting to kill his sister's 10-month-old baby, investigators said Tuesday.

Alexander Osin was sentenced for putting his sister's baby on a highway, RIA Novosti reported. He said his sister, Yelena, who was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempted murder, had asked him to kill the child.

Osin left the baby on the highway at night, figuring the poor lighting and heavy traffic would lead to the child's death. However, a driver spotted the baby from her car.
