VITRY-SUR-SEINE, France, July 10 (UPI) -- A man holding several hostages in a school in Vitry-sur-Seine, France, released his hostages and was arrested by police Tuesday without incident, officials said.
Police said the gunman, armed with two weapons, had been persuaded to release a father and son, two employees and two other children, Radio France International reported.

The incident occurred about 7 a.m. local time Tuesday at the Charles Perrault school that is used as a recreational facility during the summer, police said.
Police said they don't know why the man, reportedly a former soldier, entered the school and took hostages, Le Parisien reported.
Several homes and buildings near the school were evacuated.
