BERLIN, July 7 (UPI) -- The leader of one of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's coalition partners has called for giving Greece more time to get its financial house in order.

Rainer Bruederle, floor leader of the Free Democratic Party, is publishing a statement on Greece in Sunday's Welt am Sonntag, the Greek daily newspaper Ekathimerini reported. His statement was previewed in an article Saturday.

Allowing Greece more time to comply with the reforms required by the EU bailout package would "make sense," Bruederle said.
