Man tortures daughters to exorcise spirit

July 5, 2012 at 5:26 PM

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, July 5 (UPI) -- An Emirati man tortured his 8-year-old daughter to death and permanently disabled her 7-year-old sister in an attempt to exorcise demons, police say.

Hamad S., 29, said his two girls, Wudeema, 8, and Meera, 7, were possessed by spirits, so he brutally beat and tortured them, Gulf News reported.

Hamad and his girlfriend Al Onoud A., 27, appeared in Dubai Court of First Instance Wednesday where they were charged with illegally grounding the two girls, torturing Wudeema to death and injuring Meera. Hospital records show Meera sustained a 10 percent permanent disability.

"I did not torture Wudeema to death," Hamad told the court. "I took Meera to Rashid Hospital to treat her broken arm … I didn't torture her. I did not confine them, but I used to take them out."

Al Onoud took responsibility for it all.

"Hamad did not do anything to the girls," she told the court. "I beat and tortured them with hot water, electric wire, an iron … I electrocuted them with the taser gun."

Hamad admitted to burying Wudeema and Al Onoud admitted to being present, court records show.
